Name that hound

If you follow Team Skelley on Instagram (@teamskelley) you might have seen this photo last week:

This is Curtis. He is three and a happy fellow who loves kids, dogs and just having a good time. Our friend Mary sent his picture to us a couple of weeks ago and I immediately had this feeling that he was supposed to be a Skelley hound. So I talked to the medical coordinator at Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama, which is where we adopted Baxter and submitted an application. He has been with his foster mom for a year and really needed a forever home. We lost Baxter only a month ago but have known since spring that he would not be with us for much longer, so we have had several months to grieve and accept the inevitable. Even though the kids are very excited about having a new dog (Little Kid doesn't know what it is like to have a young dog), I have talked to them about it being okay to still miss Baxter and how Curtis is not a replacement dog.

Last week I exchanged texts with his foster mom Brandi to get a feel for his personality. His description reminded me so much of Baxter, who was also around three when we adopted him. We passed our home visit Wednesday and made plans to pick up Curtis next week.

But we have a problem. What will be his name? I don't think I can have a dog named Curtis. No offense to any dogs named Curtis out there, but that is like naming your dog Kevin. Or Tim. We need your help! These are some names the various members of the family have floated around. We need you to vote for your favorite below or submit your suggestion in the comment section below. The winning name will be announced on Wed., July 23.

  1. I like the name Curtis, but the first name that came to my mind when I saw his photo was Ralph.

  2. Oh, I just saw your post on Instagram. Based on the Instagram options, I would vote for Fletcher followed by Ray.

    1. I told C if we were going to name a dog after a Ghostbuster, it would have to be Venkman or Egan. :)

  4. I voted for Fletcher, but I think Gus is a good basset hound name. You could call him Gus Gus
