A Christmas Questionnaire

Happy holidays! Today's blog is a Christmas questionnaire that I picked up from Jennifer at Going the Distance

A holiday tradition: Ah, we have added so many traditions after almost fifteen years of being together. I have already blogged about Black Friday chex mix and our church's Christmas Eve service so today I will keep it simple. Nothing makes me happier than riding around and looking at Christmas lights. Last night, we purposely waited until dark to walk Fletch so we could walk around the neighborhood and check out everyone's lights.

If you asked my kids, they would probably say this guy who arrives every Black Friday:

Luckily, Rupert is not as destructive as some elves and he has been known to bring small goodies but he does like to find his way into tight spots and high places.

What you'd love to see Santa bring you most this year: I told The Engineer that what I really wanted a set of wireless Beats headphones for the gym and for gardening. I am the world's worst about making a sudden move on the elliptical machine and yanking my iPhone off the stand.  I think they would solve that problem. And it would be nice to be able to listen to music while trimming hedges and what not.

What's your go-to stocking stuffer item: The Engineer has a sweet tooth, so it is usually some sort of Reeces candy. As for me, I usually find a Starbucks gift card in my stocking to feed my coffee addiction. This year, Little Kid and I saw this:
Red cup ornament! I would love to find that in my stocking.

Who is the hardest to shop for during the holidays? Big Kid. Now that he has outgrown toys, he said that he wanted sports gear. And money. I remember that I loved receiving money from my grandparents every Christmas, I just did not think that we were there yet with him. But middle school is looming, and he is growing up so I guess it is time.

Favorite winter accessory: Definitely my Uggs. They keep my feet toasty. I know all of the fashion blogs proclaim that Uggs are passé, but they feel like clouds on my feet.

Christmas tree lights: colors or all white? I am partial to white, and I love the old-fashioned, large bulb lights. We use them on our family room tree.

Favorite holiday cocktail: I don't know if this counts but I am a big fan of egg nog and rum during the holiday season.

Favorite holiday food: Do you know the holiday butter cookies where half are covered in sugar and half are plain? I could eat an entire tin. Everyone in the family always fights over the sugared ones. I also look forward to gingerbread every Christmas season.

Do you have a good white elephant gift idea? This year for our family's Dirty Santa, I bought a plaid women's fashion scarf but wrapped it in camo paper to lure some unsuspecting male. My cousin Heather's husband Eddie took the bait. *evil chuckle*

Do you like candy canes?  I like to look at them but not eat them.

Hot chocolate....marshmallows or no marshmallows? I am an equal opportunity hot chocolate drinker.

Favorite holiday song: Now this is a tough one. Because there are very few Christmas songs that I do not like, in fact, the only one I can think about is that dreadful Christmas shoes song. *shudder* If I had to pick, I would probably go off the beaten path and say, Celebrate Me Home, by Kenny Loggins:

Nothing better than a little Loggins.

Favorite holiday movie: This is a no brainer, definitely Scrooged with Bill Murray. Big's favorite is Home Alone, Little's is Elf and I am guessing at this but I would probably say that The Engineer's is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Have you ever been on a sleigh ride? I have not! I need to remedy that. I have been on a carriage ride in Savannah though.

A fun holiday memory: One Christmas when I was probably about Little's age, I was sick on Christmas Eve and not able to go to our family's gathering. To cheer me up, my mom let me open one gift and it was a Smurf guitar. Thirty years later, I still remember that Smurf guitar.

Happy Monday!
